About the Overbrained Collective

Written by ND Humans
for ND Humans.

We make books, tools, and maps for neurodivergent people navigating systems that expect a lot and explain surprisingly little.

Tests. Classes. College. Professional school. Teaching. Parenting. Literature. The work changes. The pattern does not.

There is usually the thing you are supposed to do, and then there is an entire second layer of invisible work around it: figuring out where to start, what matters, what everyone assumes you already know, how to organize the pieces, how to recover when the plan falls apart, and how to do all of that with a brain that may not cooperate with the system’s preferred route.

That second layer is where Overbrained lives.
We make it visible.

Why We Make This Work

We built the things we kept looking for.

We have sat inside these systems too.

We know what it is like to understand the material and still struggle to show it the expected way. To care deeply about teaching while drowning in everything wrapped around the teaching. To parent while your own nervous system is already at capacity. To enter a new school, profession, or stage of life and discover that everybody seems to have received an instruction manual you somehow missed.

So we started making the manuals.

  • Not simplified versions of hard things.
  • Not inspiration.
  • Not another reminder to try harder.

Actual Maps.

Where does the friction happen?

What is the system really asking for?

What can be externalized?

What can be changed?

How We Build

What makes an Overbrained book different

01

We start with the hidden workload.

The content is rarely the whole problem. We look for the invisible work around it: sequencing, retrieval, transitions, planning, sensory load, communication, and the expectations nobody bothered to name.

what nobody tells you
02

ND access is built in from page one.

Neurodivergence is not a sidebar we add after the “real” book is finished. It shapes the structure, pacing, tools, examples, language, and choices from the beginning.

not the accommodations chapter
03

We keep the rigor.

Clearer structure does not make the work less serious. We are not lowering expectations. We are making the route visible enough that the work can actually be done.

same bar
04

We write from inside the experience.

Our books sound different because the people making them know the friction firsthand: as neurodivergent students, educators, professionals, parents, and readers.

lived, not observed
05

We make tools people can actually use.

Maps, scripts, checklists, decision points, recovery plans, and concrete ways forward. If a tool only works when your executive function is already perfect, it is not much of a tool.

What We Believe

Access is Equity.

Access is not making the bar lower.

It is making the bar visible.

It is naming the rule nobody explained. Showing the sequence that was assumed. Building a ramp around an executive-function bottleneck. Giving someone another route to the same intellectual destination.

Clearer structure does not reduce rigor. It reduces the amount of unnecessary work required just to reach the work that actually matters.

That is the work.

The Collective

Who is “we”?

Overbrained is a collective of neurodivergent writers, educators, professionals, parents, and people who have spent enough time inside these systems to know where they break.

We are not writing about neurodivergence from a safe distance.

We have taken the tests. Taught the classes. Read the books. Managed the classrooms. Raised the kids. Entered the professions. Missed the hidden rule. Built the workaround. Started over.

The expertise is professional. The knowledge is lived. We need both.

Inside the Collective

ND writers educators professionals parents readers + system-builders

Why that matters

Our books are not built around an imagined neurodivergent reader. We are the reader.

Show the Work

From messy notes to something you can actually use.

Overbrained books do not begin with a template. They begin with the place where the system stops making sense. We pull that apart, name the hidden work, build the route, test the tools, and keep revising until the page can carry some of the load for the reader.

The finished book should feel simpler than the work it took to build it. That is part of the job.

The Work Keeps Going

Neurodivergent people do not stop being neurodivergent when the exam ends.

Neither should the support.

That is why Overbrained keeps moving beyond test prep: into college, professional school, teaching, parenting, literature, and the everyday systems neurodivergent people are expected to navigate without a map.
